How Elinta Charge utilized TimeTick’s comprehensive diagnostics platform to unlock new markets and harden infrastructure security.
TimeTick is a testing and monitoring solution for EV chargers and backend charging software. As a platform for simulating, testing, and monitoring EV charging stations and other IoT devices, we provide a unified environment to run virtual chargers, connect real hardware, validate backend logic, and perform stress tests.
Recently, we completed a strategic pilot project with Elinta Charge, a manufacturer of premium public EV charging stations. While the testing process was rigorous and technical, the outcome provides tangible business value: ensuring Elinta’s hardware is ready for strict global regulations and secure enough for critical infrastructure networks.
Here is how we utilized the TimeTick platform to validate these key business requirements.
Entering the US market means navigating complex regulations, specifically California's strict rules on transparency. To secure certification under the California Type Evaluation Program (CTEP), chargers must adhere to specific "California Pricing" protocols via OCPP.
Elinta Charge utilized TimeTick to simulate and validate this precise pricing workflow, ensuring their stations meet the Open Charge Alliance (OCA) standards for transparency.
For the German and European markets, billing accuracy isn't just a feature - it's a legal requirement known as Eichrecht. Charging Point Operators (CPOs) need to prove that meter data hasn't been tampered with.
Through this pilot, we implemented and validated the Open Charge Metering Format (OCMF). This ensures that every kilowatt-hour charged is cryptographically signed. By verifying the exchange of signed meter values and public keys, Elinta provides CPOs with the legal certainty required for commercial billing, protecting both the operator and the EV driver.
As EV chargers become part of the national grid, security is a top priority for tenders and operators. Basic password protection is no longer enough.
We collaborated to validate OCPP 1.6-J Security Profile 3, the highest standard for this protocol version. This involves Mutual TLS (mTLS), where the charger and the backend verify each other's digital certificates - similar to banking-grade security. By testing these encrypted handshakes on real devices, Elinta demonstrated that their hardware is hardened against cyber threats and unauthorized access.
Minimizing operational expenses (OPEX) is crucial for any charging network. Sending a technician to manually update a station is costly and inefficient.
We utilized TimeTick to stress-test Elinta’s Remote Firmware Update capabilities. We verified that the chargers can reliably download, install, and reboot with new software remotely via standard OCPP commands. This capability ensures that fleet operators can roll out new features and fixes instantly, keeping the network healthy without physical intervention.
The ability to simulate complex market scenarios and monitor real devices in one environment was a game-changer for this project. Here is what the team at Elinta Charge had to say:
"It has been a pleasure working with the TimeTick team - their attention to detail and rapid response to implementing new features based on feedback has left an impression of quality and competence. The TimeTick platform itself has let us greatly improve both the speed and thoroughness of the tests we perform in the development stage of our chargers. The user interface is intuitive, the capabilities are vast and it is constantly being updated with various quality of life improvements that make it that much easier to use.
We look forward to the evolution of TimeTick moving forward and are happy to be a part in their mission."
